3820 cpu dead?

So I had a test bench setup with some x79 mobo (asus Maximus something) and an i73820.

everything was working perfectly until some idiot touched the mobo. (Bottom left)( a lot of caps there)

the pc instantly shut itself off, and if I try to boot the cpu warning light comes on.

 

i have tried a different mobo (the exact same model) the same happens.

so do I have to buy a new one? They are only like 100$ off of amazon but it's not mine so this kinda sucks.
