I'm eyeing this one.  How does it compare with wireless in terms of reliability and speed?  The distance is quite short; 100ft maybe.

I'm currently using this powerline, and I would say it's better than wireless usb adapter. But I feel the connection is not fast as direct connect to the router, so direct connection would be the cheapest and the fastest. If I could've solved the clearance of the wire. I would've went direct connect...

I've been looking around too, first I was looking at wifi card for my computer. Then powerline. But I think the telephone line is a good option, if you dont use a telephone outlet, like for me as an example. The computer room does not use the telephone outlet, nor does the living room. We use a 5x wireless telephone that only uses the kitchens telephone outlet. Just wire up the telephone jack. Telephone only uses 2 wires (I think, I could very well be wrong, too tired to search right now)

Soooo hopefully your house was built when they started using better cables. My house was built in 2001, so I hope it has Cat 5e or Cat 6. I will know tomorrow when I open up a wall plate and look at the panel.

In my experience with Netgear 1200 series powerline adapters I've found that it is acceptable for internet usage, and the latency is not to bad either.  So if wifi is being problematic and you want Ethernet in another part of your house to where the router must live then it can work well.  However.... it will depend on your houses electric wiring being good.

You didn't mention what you would be using the connection for, but as a general guide.  For online gaming ethernet is the only way to go, for video streaming the powerline is fine, and everything else WiFi will be acceptable if you get reasonable signal.
