Looks like this old monitor has decided to start dying

carzacc

The monitor is an old AOC LM728, it's a 1280x1024 75Hz TN panel

There used to be a small horizontal line of dead pixels in the left bottom area of the display, it eventually extended all the way to the other side of the screen, now it's getting thicker, in a few weeks if it continues like this it's probably going to make the display unusable, is there any way to stop this slow death, or has the time come for this monitor?

(I guess the second option is the most likely)

P.S. As I wrote this the situation got slightly worse, with the thicker part of the line has extended a bit

APU: AMD A10-7850K cooled by an NH-L12; PSU(going to upgrade sooner or later):  Antec VP450P;RAM: 2x4GB HyperX Savage 2133MHz; MOBO: Asus A68HM-Plus; CASE: Itek [something] ; HDD: WD Blue 1TB(WD10EZEX)

OS: Triple boot openSUSE Leap Debian Jessie and Windows 10(aka MSX)

If the dead pixels are just spreading and spreading fast, it is most likely dying.

I would not spend the money to repair the old 1280x1024 monitor, rather I would buy a new one :)

I would too, it's probably worth less than it would cost to repair it

And I know for sure that the problem is not from the GPU since I tried it with another computer

Sounds like time for a new one.

That monitor sounds like it's something from the 2007 era...

A couple of years before that actually, 2004-2005

How do you kill monitors? I'm currently using Asus VB171 and had no problem since 2007.

It might start tomorrow, you might die before you see the first dead pixel

m9 I'm scared now :$

That's the thing with HDD's and monitors, they are so unpredictable and the first signs are signs of near death

I still have my DELL E178FP from 2007, but it's been collecting dust since 2013, that's some solid 6 years before I say fuck it, this monitor has served its purpose, time for a new one.
