So does anyone have any ideas on good ways to do remote access to my desktop? I would also like to do a wake-on-LAN thing (I have a raspberry PI i could use to send the message or something.)

Im thinking of using the remote desktop thing in the windows store because its free and works on my phone

Personally I use chrome remote desktop which is simple and reliable. I'm not sure about the wake on lan and getting past the password section though.

I edit my posts a lot.

I tried doing this about a month ago. Dont ask me for help tho as I was only following the guide

http://www.jeremyblum.com/2013/07/14/rpi-wol-server/

Overall I followed the guide twice and got it working the second time. then noticed my router was being a pain so I left it

also I use teamviewer for the actual remoting

Few things for Wake-On-LAN:

Supporting OS - Windows 7 > 10

Supporting motherboard + BIOS (or network card) - Which you have because it is in your sig :P

Ethernet connection to the motherboard (or network card)

Do you have all of these?

You could use your RaspberryPi. I created a .net application that can send WoL packets so I guess I could tell you the structure of the packet if you are good with coding for the Pi.

CPU: i5 4670k @ 3.4GHz + Corsair H100i      GPU: Gigabyte GTX 680 SOC (+215 Core|+162 Mem)     SSD: Kingston V300 240GB (OS)      Headset: Logitech G930

Case: Cosair Vengance C70 (white)                RAM: 16GB TeamGroup Elite Black DDR3 1600MHz       HDD: 1TB WD Blue                              Mouse: Logitech G602

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium                       PSUXFX Core Edition 750w                                                Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45               Keyboard: Logitech G510

I do have all of those.

I have no idea how to code for the Pi though. The whole reason I would use one instead of just leaing my desktop on is because the Pi consumes like 3W under load I think (don't actually know) and my desktop is like (Once again, think but don't know) 150W at idle.

Teamviewer

And for WOL you need to check if your ethernet adapter supports it.

Have a look at multiple WoL guides online. If you cant get any of them to work, then message back here.

One of the best tools for troubleshooting this situation is WireShark. It will tell you if you are receiving the WoL packet. It will actually say that the packet type is a "Magic Packet" or a "WoL" packet. With this, you know if you are receiving the WoL packet from the outside world :)

Are you using windows Home or Pro? The reason I ask is because windows home does not support MSTC/Remote Desktop by default.

You can however download a free program called "RDP Wrap" which will enable RDP over the network just fine. There's a good YouTube video on how to do that but I don't think I'm allowed to link to them here?
