I have one and it is in my current gaming computer.  I built the system about 5 years ago now.

The processor stock is 3.3GHz and turbo up to 3.9.  This does some gaming well but a lot of the new games are starting to suffer.  I overclocked the processor to 4.0GHz constant and the processor is cooled with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (love the cooler) and I don't think I have ever run hotter than 50 C since the over clock.

So the question is. . .what are you wanting to play on the processor?

I want to play games like Star Citizen and Squad.  Neither of these can I get frame rates higher than 30FPS stable.  Even when running the game off of an SSD and with a R9 390 8GB GDDR5 graphics card.  The AMD FX-6100 cpu has struggled to get high end performance on some games since the day I bought it. . .I actually had to update the BIOS on my MB before I could play games like Total War: Shogun 2 and CS:GO.   However, on games like Minecraft and lower end titles or older tripple A games the CPU still does okay.

The processor was okay when it was first released but is really starting to feel its age now, even with my 4.0 GHz OC.  I am not aware of any MB with PCIe 3.0 support.  There is no M.2 support.  Any new and recent technology/standards are not available on the motherboards.  The whole architecture is old.

Would I recommend the processor?  Not really.  Only in a case of an extreme budget build. . .and you are still probably better off with a new i5-6600k!

My next rig, is going to be an Intel rig.   I would recommend an Intel processor.  If you are a die hard gotta have AMD person, wait for Zen in 1H 2017 (maybe Q4 2016. . .through doubtful) and hope that the hype from AMD is real.
