Hi guys! I am picking parts for my new PC! I need help choosing the CPU! I heard that the i5 6600k is enough for any single GPU on the market at the time. This means that if I get the i7 6700k and game on it, the performance should be very similar. But, I think it would be cool to get an i7 6700k to make my build more professional, and so I could stream and render videos. What should I get? If this helps, I have an RX 480, so should I get the better CPU to go with a good GPU? Also, this is not included in this topic, but I am thinking of getting the Corsair H100i v2 cooler, will this be enough for both the i7 and i5? What would a better cooler be? Thanks for the help!

The h100 is good enough. It will serve you great even for overclocking. If you can afford it, i7 all the way. That will definitely be good vor streaming and rendering. Also will futureproof your pc a bit more. The i5 will do the job tho, and is a very solid choice.

The i7 is totally unnecessary for gaming, but it will help in professional scenarios so that's up to you if its worth the extra money. If your just gaming it may be worth it to buy the i5 and a better GPU.

About the cooler, it will be good for both processors even if they are overclocked.

I just helped a friend build his first PC. He got an i7 4790K and used the H100i V2. Even through 3D Mark, it kept it down below 45. It's a fine cooler.

There have been a few deals lately on the i7, so if you can afford it, buy it.

Case: Fractal Design Define R4 MB: MSI Z77A-GD55  CPU: i5 3330 OCd to 3.4Ghz CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i RAM: Kingston HyperX Blu 2x8GB @ 1600MHz GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming PSU: Seasonic M12II 650W HDD: Two Seagate Barracuda 2TB @ 7200 RPM SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB

i6

I would always go with an i6 : D

Jokes aside. If you only plan on gaming, it won't matter much. The i5 will have no problems running your GPU. If you think about getting into

anything else, you might as well get the i7. And if you haven't already, watch Linus's video on what CPU to buy : D

Also, will the i5 be good for using VR? Will there be a big difference in performance when using the i5 vs i7 in VR? Thanks

It depends on cpu intensive games. The i5 will do great in vr tho.
