I have a 980ti and it randomly decides to underclock itself to around 500 mhz and stay there. I have to disable it then reenable it to get it to go back to stock clocks. Iv tried redoing drivers iv checked temps pretty much everything I can think  of. It has never been overclocked so its not an unstable overclock.

it will do this when it isn't working hard to save power. It should go to the proper speeds when under load in a game or something. My 390X is running at 300mhz right now.

what is that file you linked?

Yeah it stays there though even when I launch up a game no clue why. I use cam to monitor it in game.

Did you try to see what powersaving settings in your system you have?

Also, it can be system bios configuration.

Iv got it on max power in nvidia control panel also set my fans to fixed at 100% to make sure it wasn't a heat problem. In windows its in high performance.

Also, if using Windows, it can be the power setting being at the power saving function rather than the balanced or High Performance.

And it also can be in-game setting, which you have in many modern games.

It does it in multiple games just happens randomly.

Can you describe the moment when it started to be like that? Maybe there was some driver or software update?

It can be sometimes with nvidia experience, which loves to change game settings on its own.

Do you have any other program that will interfere with settings, or could the system bios interfering with the clock speeds?

No clue about bios but a couple weeks ago when I was in another of my troubleshooting bouts I uninstalled anything that should have anything to do with it. Only thing on my pc was gpu-z and it still did it. If it was bios wouldn't it do it consistently? Iv had it not do it for days then do it 3 times in a day no ryhme or reason.

Have you tried switching pci e ports to a different one to see if it's the port itself

That I have not tried dont know if it will fit in my other pci-e slot though I have a power supply basement and stuff installed on top of it I will try it if we cant isolate any other causes.

I  think that the card could be on a bad driver release on Nvidias' side try rolling back to a driver you know that is stable.

Iv tried on drivers 369 up to 372.70 no change still happens randomly.

I think that is highly improbable considering that the computer seems to be built for some time. If it was bad pcie it will be noticeable in the first couple of weeks after it is built.

As I said earlier try rolling back drivers to a build you know that is stable and see if that fixes it since you don't know if the Nvidia Experience could have auto update your driver.
