For a few months now I've been having issues with my computer permissions, I have an administrator account so I know it's nothing to do with which account I have or am using. The problem doesn't let me install certain programs like Skype, Minecraft, Text Editors, etc.

It's gotten to the point that I couldn't even install the Windows 10 update because of it. The error says that I don't have permission to access that file location, which is very frustrating. I've been looking for some help for a while now and haven't gotten any thus far. Hoping someone here can change that.

Right click the folder click properties in the security tab go to advanced settings and check ownership their and change it if it's difrent

I've already done that, I own the folder so it's nothing with the ownership that's the problem, I've checked what my account is allowed to do, and everything is checked.

if you are admin and the admin owns the folder, and has read/write permissions, there should be no issue.

what happens if you right click the program in question and select run as admin?

is there a local domain in the same subnet that your computer is connected to?

is there a domain on the local subnet the computer is connected to (ie; did you just throw a computer on to a domain network but wanted to use it separately from the domain)?

do you have anti-virus software?

Are there any warnings or errors showing up in event viewer?

Okay, so after googling a bit more I found a solution that works (as far as I can tell.) I was trying to install the Direct X SDK from '09 but it once again had the error message about permissions. So I googled how to reset the permissions back to their default settings. Here's what I did, I can't guarantee that it'll work for you, but it worked for me.

1. Run PowerShell as Administrator

2. Type in "cd /"

3. Type in "/configure /cfg Windows\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose"

4. Hit enter and it should have the message "Task is completed" and a warning message, you can ignore the warning message.

EDIT: Nevermind, turns out this doesn't work for me, or only worked for a small amount of time
