Display Driver Stopped Responding

Hey guys, so I have been having this problem that my screen freezes for about 2 -4 seconds and gives me this message on notification bar (see picture).  I am assuming it's my GPU drivers (using a HD Radeon 6870 1gb with AMD CCC ) which is really outdated.  But I'm open to any suggestion of how I could fix this IF this is still fixable.  Thanks in advance!

Yup. It's your GPU driver not being able to get a response from the GPU and timing out + crashing. It can be an issue with the driver, but since your GPU is so old, it's way more likely that it's the HW that's causing it. All sorts of stuff ranging from cleaning it to underclocking it to dialing down game settings can alleviate the strain on it rendering it less prone to crash. But at the end of the day, every piece of hardware on the face of this earth will eventually simply die. Maybe it's just the time for your GPU.
