Guitar suggestions?

As a pianist, I've always wanted to learn guitar. I decided that tomorrow I'm going to go shopping for a nice electric guitar and amp. Anyone here play guitar and know of any good brands/models? I'd appreciate any tips as well. 

Wishing leads to ambition and ambition leads to motivation and motivation leads to me building an illegal rocket ship in my backyard.
