PNY USB 3.0 128 GB FD firmware update issue

I was having issues with general drive speed being limited to USB 2.0 speeds and ended up finding what looks to be the fix(firmware update for the flash drive).  However, the fix that is the update package from PNY(page link), for some reason is not showing the flash drive, or any drive for that matter(drive list grayed out).

I am trying to flash the drive on a HP Pavilion G4-2149se running Windows 10 Home 64-bit.  It is formatted as NTFS.  I have updated to the latest AMD chipset drivers, which includes two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 ports.  I have tried plugging the drive into all three of the different USB ports, program still doesn't see the drive.

yes, I have the program also set to run as admin.

 

I have also tried it in compatibility with various versions of windows selected

It states that you have to start the program and then insert the USB. Aside from that I can't help since any error can corrupt the USB drive's controller.

Can you try it on another computer?

I have done as the manual specifies.  I started the program, then inserted the drive, still not recognized in the program.  When I have access to another pc to try it with, I will do so.

Is it being shown on "This PC"? Does Disk Management see it?

click yes

"list disk"

"select disk #" #=the flash drive

"clean all"

Wait for it to complete and reinitialize the drive through Disk Management.

This is taking way longer than I expected...

It takes about an hour for every 200GB.

 

After completion, try the program again. If it doesn't work I'd call PNY and see if they can send you one with the firmware in place.

yeah, I emailed them to start the rma process.... apparently the firmware update is only for the 128GB Turbo, not for what i have which is the 128 GB Turbo RETRACT.  And I am being told they are two different drives, not just one having a different plastic shroud....
