What cpu should I get

Hello I am new at building a gaming pc. I was wondering what cpu I should use. Should I get a Intel or amd. What motherboard should I also get. Wanting to spend about $350 on cpu and motherboard. Thank you in advance.

Do you live near a microcenter?  If so, id go for a 6700k bundled with mobo and ram for max savings, (i spent $435 for mine all together, $395 for just cpu and mobo). If not get a 6600k z170 combo as mentioned above.

If you don't want to overclock this combo is a good option. Overclocking is also running your PC components at faster speeds than they are designed to be ran at if you didn't know. The i5-6600 is a good CPU for gaming, and the Z170 Extreme3 motherboard is a good choice if you're on a budget. Z170 definitely is the way to go over H170 motherboards, Z170 motherboards usually are superior in features and they have the ability to overclock as well which is nice.
