Network solution

Hi,

 

i'm looking to increase my internet/wifi speed, but I happen to know nothing about networking. Right now I have basic wifi pack, I get around 6mbts down and 0.50 up. I live in Gran Canaria, and how could I improve my speed without going fibre? Like I have the normal orange company router. I want to get both speeds higher since I like to upload videos. Will a better router increase the speed or what?

You're most likely limited by the speed of the link to your ISP. I'd advise connecting your PC to the router via cable and seeing what the speeds are. 

 

Right now, it's very unlikely that replacing the router would help.

Ok, first I have a MacBook pro And I don't have the Ethernet cable and also I'm not actually in my house in Gran Canaria but once il be back I'd like to find a solution. But anyway cable won't do so much difference... There must be a better way

There's not really any magic way to improve speeds without switching to hardwire or upgrading to a better data plan. 

 

You can test the speed close to the router and see if it's much better than normal. If it is, then an access point may be a good addition to the network.
