external power button

I was looking at making a external power button for on top of my desk and I was wondering if I can split the power button from my motherboard to go to my case and the button on top of my desk, or is it only possible to have one power button. I not an expert so I figured I would get someone else's opinion. If it helps I have a Asus Z170-Deluxe Motherboard.

You can have two buttons. Just wire them in parallel.

Plug in the front panel power button header, cut the cable and then take one lead from the case button and one lead from the desk button and connect them to one lead from the header cable. Then take the other wire from the case button and the other wire from the desk button and connect them to the other wire from the header lead.
