Ethernet "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

My intel nic on my gaming machine is currently non functional I'm assuming windows borked something up with an update. I have tried rebooting the machine in question and uninstalling and reinstalling the driver multiple times to no avail. I'm not really sure where to go from here. I don't know how long its been broken the machine in question has a pretty decent wireless connection so I might have not noticed the lack of a wired connection for weeks.

Hardware:

Asus z87 gryphon with intel 1217-v lan controller

OS windows 10 64 bit

Usually code 10 has to do with the driver and reinstalling it fixes the issue. But I do believe it's technically Device manager -specific, not device-specific. Meaning, this might be a permissions thing too. You should try Uninstalling it in Device manager. When prompted, pick to uninstall the driver too. Then after a reboot, if it's not doing it automatically, go back and scan for now devices and re-download the driver.

This method relies on your Wi-Fi functioning throughout the process.

Well fuck me. Its a damned hardware issue I booted up an ubuntu live usb and it doesn't see the nic at all just the wireless card. So somehow one of the storms that rumbled though manged to fry the nic on this pc but not the switch that sits between it and the rest of the network, or anything else on the network for that matter. Asus done fucked me again.

don't blame Asus on that, I've also lost computer parts due to storms, and the computer is plugged into a surge strip but only the power supply died and everything else survives -- and I mean I used to have an external drive (moved the hard drive to an internal state) that would be plugged into the same surge strip and the external drive would still be ok
