Software like Android Studio for making apps?

I was wondering what you guys use to make apps? Do you just use code or is it better/easier to use software like Android Studio or anything else?

 

I want to build a scratch built app integrating geolocation, with front end, back end, website interface, payments. Can I do this with something like Android Studio or am I just wasting my time?
