Hi Guys,

Just looking at getting rid of my HDD completely as it causes nothing but issues lately.

I was wondering if you could recommend one, as I don't want to go ahead and buy one that will give in a few months down the line.

I'd usually go for Seagate, but would just like some other opinions on this.

Thanks, Joel

Hi there xJoelinez :)

One option you could consider is WD Blue SSHD.

What are you planning to use the drive for? On what system are you going to install it (desktop, laptop, etc.)? Any specific performance or form factor preferences?

What is the brand and the model of your current HDD? what sort of issues are you facing? I would recommend to have a complete backup of your data in case the drive that you currently have is failing.

Hi,

Thanks for commenting!

I do have a back up of my current set up, as it's been the same since day one. It never corrupts, or I don't lose any data but it will however have periods of not working at all.

Sometimes my PC will just crash, and then the HDD isn't recognised; although since I put windows on my SSD, this no longer happens.

The purpose of the SSD is for stalling just general data, and some games that I will play. I don't really have many of my games installed, but it would be nice if they booted slightly faster that the speed of a HDD

I'll have a look at that SSHD, thanks for your input!

Have you checked the S.M.A.R.T. status and the sector health of the old drive? I would recommend running a full diagnostic test with a tool from the manufacturer to see what's wrong with the drive and if it's possible to fix it. What's the drive's model?

Have in mind that a hybrid drive only stores portions of the applications and games' data on the SSD part for faster loading and won't be as fast as an actual SSD. Moreover, you don't really have access to the SSD portion as the drive's firmware decides what goes there based on how frequent something is used and it will take some time to "learn" before you notice improvements in the speeds. :)
