I've pretty much built my new pc, and on my old hard drive is a copy of windows 7(the hard drive is not in use) do I need to wipe my old hard drive to use that copy of windows 7 on my new ssd, or can I just install it on my new ssd without wiping the old one.

You should be able to just put in on the SSD. Have you considered cloning the HDD on to the SSD?

I don't know what cloning is but if i just installed it would it let me type in the registration key for windows even though it's already on a different hard drive

If you had the key, it might. It depends whether the key is an OEM key or not.
