2000 AUD Gaming Build

Hello all,

A friend of mine is currently planning a ~2000 AUD gaming PC, including peripherals, monitor, etc. and I was wondering if the wonderful people here could give me a hand with the parts list.

Here is the PCPartPicker link (again, all currencies in AUD):

PCPartPicker part list: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/RQ6fPs

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($274.00 @ CPL Online)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler  ($55.00)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H170-GAMING 3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($189.00 @ CPL Online)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory  ($57.00 @ Centre Com)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($68.00 @ CPL Online)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GAMING X Video Card  ($500.00)
Case: NZXT S340 (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($105.00 @ CPL Online)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($129.00 @ PLE Computers)
Monitor: BenQ XL2411T 24.0" 144Hz Monitor  ($379.00 @ CPL Online)
Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard  ($205.00 @ IJK)
Mouse: Logitech G502 Wired Optical Mouse  ($89.00)
Total: $2050.00

What I'm particularly questioning is:

  1. Power Supply
  2. Monitor
  3. Motherboard

Thanks for any suggestions!

Some guy called my office, trying to sell me computers. I just said "oh you mean those little box's with the tv on top? Yeah, our accountant has some". He promptly gave up and hung up the phone lol

That is a good power supply, but its a bit overkill (650 watt for a 290 watt build) unless you are planning for another graphics card in the future.  Your motherboard is fine, but you could go with either of these:

  Asus Z170-P D3

Asus B150 PRO GAMING D3

These are both cheaper which should free up some of your budget and Asus motherboard are higher quality than Gigabyte.  You monitor is also fine, but I would personally go with one that has a lower response time like this one:

Asus VP228H

Lower response time is better for gaming and although it is smaller, you could get two of them for the same price as the BenQ.  (Yes its a coincidence that all of the products I mentioned are Asus)

Those are DDR3 motherboards. :/

And the BenQ XL2411T indeed has 1ms response time, pcpartpicker got it wrong. The monitor you're suggesting is only 60Hz.
