How to underclock RAM

I found out that my motherboard has problems with DDR3 1600mhz ram so I would like to know how to underclock my DDR3 1600mhz to 1066mhz.

I have a crucial Ballistix 16gb 1600mhz 2x 8gb kit

But I have 6gb (3x 2gb) 1066mhz from an old dell in my PC right now and it is stable.

So will underclocking make it stable and if so, how do I underclock ram?

What makes you think the higher clocked RAM is causing problems?

I had the 1600mhz kit in and it had frequent MEMORY_MANAGEMENT crashes

but now that I have 1066mhz ram, it hasn't crashed it once

Your 1600mhz kit was probably just defective and needs to be RMA'd. 

 

Download Memtest 86+ and put it on a USB. Then boot off of it and let it run for a bit. Try to run it with both 1600mhz DIMMs then run it with each DIMM independently.

I would need to find the box and send it back. Also, I bought two independent 8gb sticks, would that change anything?

Well, the reason to buy RAM in kits is because the manufacturer guarantees they'll work together. With that said, separately purchased DIMMs almost always work together (it's a ridiculously small chance that you'd have an issue -- assuming both DIMMs are working correctly). 

 

 

Download Memtest 86+ and put it on a USB. Then boot off of it and let it run for a bit. Try to run it with both 1600mhz DIMMs then run it with each DIMM independently. 

 

Also, you shouldn't need the original box to send them back.

Also, both the sticks are defective then. I have tested them both independently and in different slots and they both caused the same bluescreens

The problem here is that you are using a different kit, so testing is not really apples to apples, except the interface being used. My bet is your memory is just defective.

I've tried Memtest86 and there was nothing wrong with either DIMM

If it does not work at stock speed you should RMA it, if you really want to under-clock then reduce the MHz...
