E5649 Motherboard?

Hi,

 

This is my first post.

I got a Xeon E5649 (LGA 1366) of eBay, and I am wondering would a MSI X58 Pro be compatible with it? 

Its the same socket, but would there be problems with chipsets, etc?

 

Also what sort of speed would Turbo Boost go up to, it says on ark 2.9Ghz for a single core?

 

Any help would be appreciated.

After a bit of googling, some people report it working but other say it has issues.. So I'm not too sure. The best way to find out I guess is to try it  And it will turbo to 2.9 single core c:

Just seen in the BIOS update list that 8.A added support for Gulftown CPUs.

Wikipedia says that Gulftown and Westmere-EP (6 core) are the same thing.

So a Westmere-EP 56xx should work. 

 

So later on I could upgrade to a X5690 (six core 3.5Ghz Base  )
