First things first, I'm in Canada so my prices will obviously be in CAD. My total budget is about $1500, I could stretch it if necessary but would prefer to stay under it. It'll be primarily used for gaming, game recording, and occasional video editing (by no means top priority). I want to game at 1440p 60fps.

This thread is for the tower only, not peripherals.

I'm building this rig because I want to upgrade for 1440p and downsize my tower.

So, I'll be taking whatever parts I can from my current rig. This will include the AX860i PSU and probably the GTX 770 Classified (at least until I pull the trigger on a new GPU).

My "to-buy" list so far looks like this: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/cwBbhq

A few reasons for my picks:

i5-6600k - plan on overclocking and want a skylake i5, so not really any other options.

Z170M-PLUS - mATX board with M.2 and USB type C, already familiar with AI Suite 3

NH-D14 - high performance air cooler, want to avoid watercooling to eliminate points of failure

Vengeance LPX - nothing too special, just need to clear the cooler

950 PRO M.2 - reputable high-speed drive with 5 year warranty

Arc Mini R2 - mATX case with good space, have already built a friend's rig in one

This build is not urgent by any means, I'll most likely piece it together over several months as I find deals on parts. With that said, I'm fairly certain I want a GTX 1070 STRIX mainly because 1080's are still $850-$1,000 here, and I like the look and cooler design on the Asus cards. A 1TB SSD would be nice to add in as well, but I can make do with a mechanical drive if need be.

Any input will be considered, I value the collective knowledge of the forum!

since you go with 6600k, you can check out the CRYORIG H5 Ultimate(single tower) it has the same height(160mm) with NH-D14(dual tower), but with better looking IMO. Currently use one(replacing my old 212x turbo), it performs great and runs pretty quiet. Should be enough for the CPU.

And also It's cheaper, at least in my place.

CPU: i5 4690k 4.3Ghz | MB: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 | Cooling: Cryorig H5 Ultimate | RAM: Hyperx Fury 16GB | GPU: Sapphire R9 380X | PSU: Seasonic X760 | Case: S340

I actually prefer the look of the Noctua, and the Noctua will have better thermals at load with an overclock. That said, the Cryorig would actually cost me more here as well (after shipping and exchange rate).
