Lynnfield Overclocking Hot?

So I am using a SilverStone TD-02E (240mm water cooler) and my Xeon x3470 (i7 870). When trying for 4GHz I had to use about 1.32 volts and ended up hitting around 88C in a Prime 95 Large FFT Heat test and 84 in a normal blend test. Is this normal? My normal 3.6GHz and 1.24 volts only hits around 72C.

I have the same cooler, the more you overclock, and more power you feed into your cpu, the more heat it will give off. Im not sure if those volatages are accurate, but kno know at 1.297V i can hit little more than 4.8Ghz on i7-4790k, but i dont know much about that CPU and overclocking that you have

Go into most CPU demanding game you play and check temps while playing, they won't be as high as on stress testing.

Believe me I know how this works. I'm just asking if this is anywhere near a normal temp. How hot does yours get? You have the thinner radiator version I do believe.

Same one as you. Thinner also means i have less surface contact with the cooler so it would be warmer. Mine stays around 74C on load at 4.8Ghz.

Well Lynnfield is known for being hot as hell but it still seems like its too hot for a water cooler.

I could care less about a CPU demanding game. I want to stress test it and I am not going to stress test this chip that hot. I was just asking if anyone else has a similar setup and similar temps.

try increasing the fan speed on the radiator. so the fans draw more air through the radiator. static pressure fans work really well here

I was running them at max. Maybe it just is that damn hot.
