Is this build future proof?

laushik

I'm getting this build and I was wondering how long would it last me? And for how many more years will it play the newest games at maxed settings. And also any suggestions?

"Future proof" is a bad word (or phrase). And yeah... where's the parts list?

I certainly wouldn't call this future proof by any stretch of the imagination. Not a bad build, though.

Well, let me start by saying that this will beat the crap out of my "future proof" build that I built a little over two and a half years ago (you're welcome to check out my specs on my profile). It was a nice build then. Now, it's not the least bit impressive, and it's in desperate need of a GPU upgrade. I'm running DDR3 RAM, which is arguably obsolete.

You chose a GTX 1070. A fine card, and Nvidia's latest release in that price range, but it's not the best at all. That automatically makes it even less future proof than any build could be. I would grab a 1080 at the very least.

You chose an i5 6600K. Go with a Core i7 6700K. Most titles now won't benefit a whole lot from it, but in a year or so they might, and you can overclock (just as you could with the 6600K) to get a little more juice out of it if ever needed.

You chose a 1080p monitor. I know it's difficult to find 4K at 144Hz (honestly don't even know if that's practical right now), but at least get a 2K monitor. 1080p is quickly on its way out.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to be insulting or arrogant. Just offering advice since I've been there myself. This is a respectable build, but not at all future proof. If it makes you feel better, nothing in this field is remotely future proof.

On top of all of this, a "future resistant" build (phrase that I made up just now) is an insane amount of money, and probably not really worth it.

Totally understand, Ive got a budget to abide from and with that budget I don't think I would be able to afford the "top of the line" stuff, but the beauty of building a pc is that there is always potential to upgrade.

But if you were to guess, how long would this build last me without having to upgrade anything?

I'd say you'd get a solid two years out of it before you were itching for an upgrade. Obviously, it depends on the titles you're playing.

Not when you have a CPU that is already bottlenecking.

I don't think the 6600k bottlenecks a 1070 and definetly not when OC'd to 4.6ghz

There is no direct comparison of the 6600k or 1070 in any of the videos and also they arent considering OC'ing

The 6600K isn't really that much better than the 4690K.

Watch from around 3:20. In CPU intensive games it will bottleneck.

It is not visible in game and the majority of times the cpu didnt go above 90% usage, it is in just some areas

In the city which is the main part people will be in, it is bottlenecking by about 20-30%.

you have to consider though... does that matter too much... if he is getting over 60 fps, not really... that just means that when he decides to upgrade there is still a bit more performance he can get.

also i would like to add, i5's are basically i7's w/o hyperthreading, in games, you dont really notice it too much unless you are REALLY looking
