I was originally going to get a 7970 GE then I heard about the 280x and decided to wait. Now that benchmarks are here I'm confused :/ I'm seeing reviews on anandtech and other place showing the Asus Direct CUII 280x, and others are out preform the 7970GE and getting close to the GTX 770. But In these reviews they claim the 280X is still slower than the 7970 GE but faster than original 7970 but their benchmarks are showing it's faster than both. Now Tom's benchmarks are way lower than anywhere else I've seen, so I have no idea what I should be getting.

Watch Linus' review of the R9-280X, at the end of the video you have a special visit of Slick who shows some benchmark, the R9-280X is actually better than the 7970 in everything - or equal -  (obvious, it's about the same card but with the OC of the Ghz) and it's better than the 770 in some cases. The 770 outperfoms the 280X in some situations, but considering it costs 120-150$ more, I'd say go for the 280X!

like piplupgao said, not a massive frame difference, so if you can spend a few more penies, do so, but it wont be a life-ending change

personally i'd always go with newer

i learnt from barney stinson: "new is always better"
