Computer randomly shutting off

My friend's computer will randomly turn off during games, but now he says it has changed to now whenver he opens a program it will shut off. Any ideas?

Specs arent known, I can try and get them. Thanks for help.

Can't do anything without specs.

most likely the Power supply though so if its a crappy unit replace that first.

CPU: AMD 4100 Quad Core

Graphics: AMD 7700

Board- Asus

Power Supply: 500 watt idk what brand

Does it shutdown, or just restarts?

A restart could be caused by an error (BSOD maybe)

A shutdown would be power related.

And also I know it can be problematic but if you can get to know which brand the psu is would be great.

My first guess would be a power supply issue. Try replacing the power supply to see if that fixes the problem. If you don't have one, see if you can buy one to test with and be able to return it afterwards if you need to.
