Audio card usefulness

I have been wondering for a while what the point of adding an audio card to your regular system, everyday system, middle of the range PC is. Anyone wanna tell me?

Some people think they'll give you a better, less coloured (*cough Creative *cough) audio experience, some use them to get away from noisy audio.

Personally, I use one becuase my onboard audio solution don't have coax out (WTF, Asus?) and a soundcard adds that. 

 

So, for the wast majority of people there won't be any added benefit to adding a soundcard.

Basically, unless you need the ports, or your onboard sound is terrible/broken, there is no point at all.
