Adobe after effects amd gpu acceleration

I am wondering if it is worth it getting a nvidia over a amd card for gpu acceleration in Adobe after effects. 

I have heard that amd does work for gpu acceleration in Adobe after effects I am just wondering if this works if it does is it stable and worth it or should I just get a nvidia card

Also is gpu acceleration worth it?

and GPU acceleration is definitely worth it

If you get a nVidia card it will use CUDA, with AMD cards it uses OpenCL GPU acceleration.  They both work very well, but actual performance will depend on your setup and the rendering of effects that AE has to perform.  Personally I prefer CUDA.

GPUs are millions of times faster then the CPU. Unless you are a pro don't get a WS card. You are paying for 10 bit color output, ECC memory and 24/7 operation. The more Cuda cores the better. So the new Titan X would probably rock but you could just get 2 980tis and destroy it though.

Having a dGPU for video editing is worth it, even if you look at the activity monitor and see that GPU utilisation is low.  Both CUDA and OpenCL have their strengths and weaknesses.  CUDA will do somethings better, OpenCL will do other things better, but overall they usually come out close to being even.

Yeah that is what I was saying. For a non pro with a not $5,000 monitor 10 bit color means nothing

Ahh right, I misread your comment and didn't see you mentioned WS (workstation) cards.  I agree, workstation cards like the Quadros are only worth it if one is using a 10-bit monitor, or utilise the capabilities of workstation cards for engineering applications but even for that there are some consumer cards that sometimes have such capabilities.  A 10-bit color GPU it cannot display 10-bit color on an 8-bit monitor.

I am on a large budget actually and I was thinking a i7 6700k and I was thinking the new 1060 should i take some of that money from the CPU and Put it into the gpu?
