$300 Mom Laptop

So My mother's 7 and a half year old Acer laptop just gave out on her and she needs a new one soon, for under $300, $315 Max.

This is what she needs

14 inch screen or larger 

hdmi/mini-hdmi port

Windows

 

at these stores:

Newegg

Walmart

Best Buy

Staples

 

So whats the best i can get?

the following laptop is the best i've found

does she need windows? under 400 a chromebook is probbly a better choice. 

 

if you must have windows, don't buy anything with a HDD unless you plan on swapping for an SSD,  

 

that i3 skylake seems decently speced.

it would help to know what she would be doing.

Windows is absolutely Mandatory

She hates the chrome os by trying the chrome book from my school

What about an old surface? My RT works fine and has a mini hdmi

her old laptop ran Ubuntu 14.04 (Didn't want to worry about viruses)

She's not terrible at tech. just hates Chrome OS

and if you read the post i may grab the T420 and get an  SSD

but why does she hate it. 

 

4GB of ram is a lil low, i would upgrade that.  plus what gen is that cpu, seems a lil old.

i5 2420M i believe 4 GB of ram is fine for web browsing and facebook and youtube

LOLOLOOL,chrome runs perfectly normal on my Gateway laptop with a intel pentium b960 that cant even that cant even run CS 1.6 at 640x480 and has 4gb of ram which runs decent,an i5 2420M would be a HUGE upgrade over the pentium b960 yet the b960 runs decent on chrome
