Hey all!

I'm thinking about ordering an Intel Core i7 6700K for my (somewhat older) rig. I don't know my pc will handle it as I don't have alot experience building pc's (I bought this pc pre-assembled, only changed GPU and added 2 SSD's). If my pc can handle it, should I buy the boxed or tray version? I know a custom cooler is better for overclocking and noise but I don't wanna spend alot more on that.

Can anyone help me out? PC specs below!

PC specs
GPU: MSI Nvidia GTX970 4G Gaming 4GB

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40 GHz

HDD: 500 GB SataIII 7200RPM

SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB (x2)

RAM: Corsair 12GB DDR3

Mobo: MSI H77MA-G43

Case: Cooler Master K-350 Advanced 3.0 Blue

PSU: Cooler Master 600W

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

You need to change motherboard, and RAM for it to fit. Also you dont need it just with a GTX 970.

Aha, so the new CPU doesn't fit my mobo and the ram doesn't fit the new mobo I'll have to get?

Yes, and the MB to support OC on a 6700k can be pretty expensive, it doesnt compensate to upgrade with a GTX 970.

Okay, so the boxed version, a new mobo and new ram will do fine? Do you have any suggestions for the mobo and ram? I'm looking for a bit 'budget-ish' (not the cheapest, not the most expensive ones for overclocking and extreme performances). The games I play nowadays are GTA V/Online, Overwatch and Battlefield 4. My pc is having a hard time handling GTA and BF4 sometimes. At first it will run fine but after some time or in certain demanding area's/situations in these games I'm getting huge FPS drops (CPU temperatures around 90 degrees, normally 60-70).

Your current motherboard doesn't support overclocking. Try to find a used Z77 motherboard so you can overclock your CPU to reach it's full potential. this one looks pretty good: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-Z77A-G45-MILITARY-CLASS-MAINBOARD-NOT-TESTED-Not-accessories-/162139855474?hash=item25c049da72:g:uiUAAOSww9VXgu86

Thanks for the reply! That mobo sounds nice, not too expensive (don't know about shipping though, I live in The Netherlands). But do I really need to overclock for just the games listed in my comment above?
