Not exactly rebranded. However, we don't yet know if it's possible. But we'll have to wait to see if it's actually possible.

Maybe the 7970 just needs some sort of bios update, just wait until the 8th and see

We need to see. Some card's just can't be simply flashed due to some parts added in or removed in some cases. We will have to see and wait for some nut job to try it out :P

what people might mean by rebranded 7970 is that it will likely be similar in performance...

It has exactly the same core, memory and clocks as the 7970 Ghz. Still I don't think it is possible due to diffirent BIOS, but as everybody said, let's just wait for more info.

I'm willing to bet you could bios flash a 280x down to a 7970 bios.
