Hello forum,

I am an absolute noob when it comes to ram but I would like to expand my ram in my laptop from 8gb to 12gb, the problem is that I do not know what timings my current sticks (2x4gb) have. I downloaded CPU-Z but i can not figure out what my timings are. Can anybody help me?

yeah i'm pretty sure its just you CAS latency at different frequencies. Don't really pay attention timings too much tbh why did you need to know?

I read somewhere that when you want to add new RAM sticks you should make sure they have the same timings... Is this just pure bullshit or does it actually matter?

if you have one stick of ram and you want to add 1 more stick of ram you should pay attention to the timing, but if you're replacing both sticks of ram then it doesn't matter.

you can use any ram regardless of the timeing you want to pay attention of the MB supports 12gb and even if the PSU will handle the extra power, good luck trying to find 2x6 gb laptop ram.

I already have 2x4gb sticks sitting in my laptop and since I have anonther 2 slots to spare, I would like to add a 4gb stick... so than the timings do matter, right?

and do they have to match identically,or is any cl-11 ram ok?

If they aren't the exact same timings you'll experience anything from your ram not working at all together to maybe some minor performance loss, i would recommend just getting some RAM that's 2x8 and better performing than what you have now.
