Hey guys,

I have been using WHS 2011 with Drivepool and SyncBackPro as part of my backup and archiving routine. Did a complete rebuild of the network and moved drives around and have retired WHS 2011 (it's unfortunate, this setup was rock solid). Also, SyncBackPro has been pretty fantastic being run on the server and on individual clients (all Windows based). I am wondering what alternatives are out there that will allow for backups (one way) and mirroring (2 way) from drive to drive and drive to network. If you have ever done this before with lots of data, especially lots of small sized files, you will know that this process can take some time to 1. scan and 2. make the copy and deletes in the source and destination folders.

SyncbackPro's first back up always takes the longest, eats up tons of RAM and slows the PC down quite a bit as it copies over multiple files (at the same time) and I see Resource Manager report the system can hit  100-200 MB/s of writing in the systems disk. This is pretty good but it does eat up resources as well. But, it will eventually finish. Most of the time, I would run things again and sometimes there are files left behind on the first runt. Probably from being locked by Windows but secondary scans times are not too bad. On the same system between 2 physical drives, even 3TB of data takes around 10-15 min to complete scanning the source and destination locations.

Now, I am trying to increase efficiency and looking for

1. Something that backs up that has less overhead

2. Automated, set it and forget it (most times, if it's not automatic, it just won't get done in a timely manner causing a single point of failure scenario). PC is not on 24/7, I set the scans around the times that the PC is most likely to be on.

3. I set scanning for once a day and mirror the drives in my PC

4. Something that works efficiently over a network would also be great

What do you guys use for your backups?
