Am I doing this right?

Do I connect the hdmi cable to the monitor to the graphics card or do I connect the monitor to the motherboards hdmi slot? When I connected hdmi to graphics card it would not do anything. Sorry this my first time using a gaming pc which I built. Thank you for teaching me if you give me any advice.

If you have a dedicated GPU you plug into that NOT the motherboard.

 

If your GPU is not displaying anything, check you have all the cables plugged in like the 6+2 pin PCI power and the motherboard 24 and 8 pin power.

You connect the HDMI cable to the graphics card. If you're having issues, double check that all connectors are plugged in and secured with regards to the graphics card, and if you have a modular power supply(you can disconnect cables from it), check to make sure they're all secure as well.
