Memory issue Dell Latitude

I have a latitude e6410.  It is from sometime around 2011.  The dell support page says I can install 8 GB of memory.  I went out today and bought an 8 GB kit.  When I install it and power on, windows startup repair comes up.  I click repair and a white screen comes up.  I also tried starting normally but still the white screen.  I went to run the diagnostic and during the CPU memory test, it gave me a white screen.  Any ideas on the issue?  Also, would a 4GB and 2GB config really affect my performance that much?
