Yea I've also heard really good things about it. On problem is that they don't ship to New Zealand and going through a middle man slaps another $200 or so on. I was pretty disappointed when i found out.

Well that really sucks...I don't know if you want a new phone, but an old one might be the zenfone 2. Not 100% sure if it is metal or plastic. They recently announced the zenfone 3, release in Q3 this year, with a base price of $250, and a metal body, so if you don't mind waiting that could be a good option.

Looking for purchase advice for a new smartphone. Between $400 and $450, looking for decent battery life and decent performance. I live in New Zealand so many options may be unavailable so I might look to buy something overseas in which case I'd really appreciate someone giving me a run down on what a phone needs to work on New Zealand networks. Thanks in advance.

I'm partial to the Nexus devices: they are pretty cheap for what you get, and work on a large variety of networks. For checking compatibility, I use frequencycheck.net. For example, this page shows you which carriers the Nexus 5X works with in New Zealand: https://www.frequencycheck.com/compatibility/dNYCA0/google-nexus-5x-lg-h791/new-zealand

Oh sweet, thanks dude. I'm just not sure about the 5X's build quality though, after using a friend's Z5 my heart is set on something with a nice metal build.

For a metal build, maybe look into the oneplus 3. I don't have any experience with the company though, so I can't be much help. I've heard decent things about it though. Linus did review it a few weeks back though, so maybe take a look at his review.

Fuck, I'll probably just do that then. I know the zenfone 1 and 2 are available here so I assume the 3 will. Thanks for your help man.
