I wouldn't crossfire a midrange card, especially when the scaling and support is poor in many games. If you want 480 to beat the 1060, just get one with good PCB and cooler, then overclock that shit. Else grab a 1070.

 

65% scaling when the game support it. 

5 games didn't scale out of 16 games TPU tested and 4 out of those 5 is late 2015 and 2016 games. 

Also we don't know if any of those games have microstutters/flickering which is a common problem for multi-GPU setup.

Cheapest aftermarket 1070 cost $500 here in Malaysia and 2x reference 480 cost $620. From that graph i posted previously the 1070 is not that far off 2x 480 when the scaling is ok, overclocking the 1070 will close the gap if not match/outperform it.

Not to mention power draw. You need a much better power supply for 480 crossfire than single 1070. The cost difference of the PSU makes the xfire 480 price even worse. Without even overclocking you're looking at 340-350 watts for GPU alone.

I had one ordered and getting ready to be shipped to me last week but I cancelled when I read about the PCI-e power issues. I didn't want to take the risk of damaging it having issues with my older board (ga-p55m-ud2). The main r9 390x dropped to $329 on Newegg so I went with that.

They already fixed it with latest beta driver and aftermarket 480 won't be having that same problem.

I read that, I didn't want to risk buying a gimped card and I'm kind of impatient ?

There's zero performance loss so I'm not sure what you mean when you say it's a 'gimped card'.

Wellat,  the time I was speculating at the possible outcomes and didn't want to risk my money on something that was not 100% vetted. Like I said, I can be impatient sometimes?

Im having issues with my 480s profformance. Im getting half the fps that others are getting with similar builds. Was only getting a 2.8 on steamvr but was able to get that up to a 3.1 with some tinkering. Still a far cry from what is advertised. Cleared all old drivers with ddu you and installed latest. The only thing I can think is I somehow managed to get a bunk card. I going to try to trade it in.

According to recent reports, the1060 would have performance comparable to the 980 at nearly the same price point as an RX 480. As far as I'm concerned, the 480 is comparable to the 970 and 390 in terms of performance with it being only a couple of dollars cheaper. I think Nvidia might've won this round unfortunately...
