Hello, I recently bought a new dell inspiron laptop (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PYYDMQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and tried playing the new DOOM game only to be met with extreme unplayably low framerate (sub 20 at best). At first I thought I may have just wrongly assumed my laptop could run the game, but then I saw this video

in which it appears someone is running the game above 30 with the same laptop. I checked nvidia control panel and it looks like the game is using the right video card, but is still running so poorly. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or something else. Any and all help with this problem would be appreciated, thanks.

Make sure that you are using the latest drivers. My XPS 15 (6700HQ and 960m) ran at about 10 fps until I installed the latest drivers. Now I can get 60fps at 1080p with medium settings and 75% resolution scaling.

Just updated my drivers, and the game ran much better! Consistently above 30fps on medium settings at 1080p, and at 720p consistently above 60. Not sure if the difference between mine and your performance is because of your better cpu, or something else. But if you have any recommendations of what I could do to get a few more frames that would again be appreciated.

Dropping the resolution scaling really helps fps without reducing visual quality too much. I am also using FXAA for my anti aliasing. Try messing with settings such as lighting, shadows, depth of field, motion blur, and particle effects. I find that they don't add much to the experience and impact the frame rate.
