So I got my MSI r9 280x a while ago and all went fine until it started showing artifacts (weird visual stuff going on). It only happened couple of times so I didn't really know what was going on yet.... After a while I figured out tho that the MSI version I bought was 'factory overclocked'. I read up about artifacting and I read that this could be caused by bad overclocks .... So I just looked up the 'standard specs' of the card and they say :

GPU Clock: 850 MHz
Boost Clock: 1000 MHz

So will it help if I underclock my GPU from 1010MHz to the standard 850MHz ? Or should should I  set it something in between ?

Also : any other solutions to fixing this artifacting ?

If you have not overclocked it yourself, MSI will most likely replace your GPU if you still have warranty left on it. The Card should not show artifacting from stock.

Dont really have any screenshots to show you but it's weird stuff.... Sometimes it's a flickering block with a checkered pattern , sometimes it's flickering , sometimes it's a polygon spasming all over the place.... In newer games like Dark souls 3 & overwatch I also get some funky lighting stuff going on , like glowing yellow/green dots on screen : /

edit : not mine but looks somewhat like this sometimes but then concentraded in a little block on the screen maxresdefault.jpg

That's look like a faulty chip. No such problem when you downclock? Also try downclock the memory as well.

Download GPU-Z or HWiNFO and check the VRMs temperature.

Is it like this?
