Quick question about RAM speeds

Go to solution Solved by _JohnB330ci,

Should be fine, it will just run at a lower speed, also, I'd go for a different PSU if possible, and maybe a small SSD for boot.

This is my first build and I spent a few days mulling over each part; when I was busy ordering the parts I noticed something I didn't pick up on.

The RAM I'm looking to buy is G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 2400MHz CL15, but the motherboard and CPU has lower specifications with regard to the memory speed, 2133 MHz.

Is this a problem?

Thanks and sorry for my overall noobness.

Also any other advice on the build is welcome.

Thanks.

With regards to the PSU, are you thinking different wattage or non modular?

And a SSD is on the cards depending on the budget at the end of the month.

i'd say just one with higher quality, output is fine

Oh ok, I thought as long as it has a brand name it's fine :D, but thanks will look into it.

One question. If it turns out that the RAM isn't compatible, would you like to have someone other than yourself or us to blame for the misinformation. Someone liable like one of the manufactures. Just saying, G.Skill doesn't officially recommend any of their RAM for the board you have and MSI doesn't recommend any 2400MHz RAM, period. Edit: Strike that. I was looking at the wrong field. Heading out to bed this instant. MSI has the Rj V listed at 2400MHz@CAS15, just in different color. Looks good, actually.

I wholeheartedly recommend you stick to known-good RAM recommended by the manufacturers. Just so you can RMA it if anything unexpected turns up. The sticks don't come out from the factory as identical clones of each other and it can turn out to be unstable even later on. What works for one, might not work for all. Use those compatibility lists to find suitable RAM. Other manufacturers have tools on their sites too.

And yeah. Corsair CX PSUs are complete crap. They're rated for mere 30 degrees C and start acting up pretty much right at 31 degrees. I don't know about your plans but the air in my computer case isn't much below thirty even when it's off. Total BS. No reason why a PSU has to be that crappy other than cheap-o components.
