centos 7 CIFS/samba help

i put centos 7 on my file server (freenas shit the bed with plex randomly ) with a buddy of mine helping me, atm its been 3 days of on and off trying different things to get windows to first see the share then allow me to access it which is still broken .

 

if anyone has a good guide for setting up samba/CIFS that would be great . all the ones i found are useless since most of the info has no use anymore such as there was a section just for guest shares thats now no longer there . or is for the other way from linix accessing the windows machine . i did try this and i was unable on my windows machine to drop files in only on centos it worked . atm im only trying to get no password no user access since of the pain this is . yes i know it should do it with a user/PW but i just want it to work before i do that .

i got x2go, docker and plex all working fine just dam shares ant happy .

 

just to be clear  im able to see the folder i am sharing  from centos 7 but cant open it on the windows machine all i get when i open properties is special permissions is checked even thou i have guest access allowed , the folder set correct i am sharing   and all other lines correct

edit i can upload the samba config if anyone needs it

Did you set the samba share as readable on the host?

What's the output of

ls -la /samba/

ls: cannot access /samba/: No such file or directory

is what i get.

this is the first time im playing around with linix so be gentle i dont know much about how to get everything going yet . im guessing something is screwed up is my guess i didnt set something  up right ? i did enable both snb and smb and same with putting samba into the firewall and reload it also just wanted to add that in

Well, if it's not at /samba/ then just do ls -la on whatever folder you did create the samba share in.

Did you look at the howto on centos.org?

sorry for the long delay is july 4th weekend uve been having too much fun with fireworks

here is the correct folder for the command you gave me

also isnt that for centos 5 not 7 i tried to get the graphic interface well to find it but its not in admin section and i cant find much info on it

/etc

holds config files, which is all your output shows. It's not containing the folders you're sharing, nor should it.

What are the contents of /etc/smb.conf ?

 

And there shouldn't be that much of a difference in configuration between OSs. Something like this CLI only config guide for Ubuntu should still be applicable. Except since you want access to guest users you'd have

guest ok = yes
guest only = yes

instead of the 'valid users' definition.

it ended up being selinix being a pain i turned it off temporary and it works just had to fix it i had all the guest access yes , allow reads ect all yes but it was just selinix
