Easily the i5 6400 over any AMD CPU. The single core performance is much higher which makes it the superior choice for games currently, a way better upgrade path whereas AM3+ is a dead socket and DDR4 RAM (as opposed to the DDR3 of the AM3+ socket).

If you're happy with your current performance, there's no need to.

I dont know what games are you playing but my 8350 is holding just fine with the games. The upgrade part is true tough.

It's a decent choice but Intel holds the lead in CPUs. Single core performance (which matter particularly for gaming) is much higher and power consumption is much lower.

yeah i know, but if your on tight budget its decent cpu to get, but intel takes the cake with the core perf, power consumption, heat output and stuff like that, but it also comes with a cost.

Even then at a budget, I'd still have a i3 over something like the FX 6300 because single core performance is important for gaming.

It comes at a cost but you're also paying for the extra performance.

True. Would still stick with Intel though IMO.
