I recently finished me very first build (i5-6600k, GTX-960 and a Z170-AR). I tried my hand at overclocking the cpu and managed to get a stable(ish) setup, running at 4.8ghz with 1.335v. Passed Cinebench and Performance Test,  ran the RealBench stress test for 10mins before getting a BsoD, and ran OCCT for 5mins before getting another BsoD. On all these tests the max temps where around 70-75, never getting too close to 80. This for me i think is stable enough for 24/7 use, i don't  do video editing or the like, keeping my cpu at 100% load for hours and hours, I mostly just game (Overwatch and League) and study for Uni.

Since this is my first time Overclocking, i'm asking for advice on whether what i've done is bad or not? Will the above voltages and temps kill my cpu much quicker than i'd like? Any and all advice is welcome :)

Sounds Good. I personally don't raise voltage when I overclock (So I don't risk anything).

Careful with that. If you leave the voltage on auto then overclock, some boards will just puke out unsafe voltages, even dangerously high depending on your OC, to satisfy themselves that everything will be stable. You're better off deciding on a voltage you're comfortable at, finding the OC you can attain at it, then leaving everything on manual. Idling at 1.22v won't hurt anything, but your PC firing up to 1.42v at load will.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I remember i managed to boot right off the bat at 4.8ghz with stock voltage (1.25 i think by memory) however it crashed half way through logging in windows lol. I tried to push it up to 4.9, then down to 4.85, but couldn't get a stable setup at 1.4v, and honestly i don't think i would've run it even if i did at those voltages. My problem now i think are the temps? I'm just running Air cooling atm (8 fans, incl psu/gpu) , some badass fans keeping my temps down, altho i intend to buy a couple more. I get a little worried when i see the temps hitting 76. Should i worry or are these temps ok? Will it degrade my cpu? Thanks.

I remember when i was trying to see if i could push it to 5.0Ghz, i turned back the voltage to auto, but forgot to set the multiplier back aswell ( i was resetting it to stock for reasons) and it tried to give my precious little cpu 1.504v, no thank you :D

I'm not leaving the voltage to auto at all, i put in 1.335v manually in the bios.

I think we've all made that mistake once.

Once. :D
