Hello,

My Windows randomly keeps freezing up on me. I have read multiple threads on this forum but none of the solutions helped me. I've tried switching HDD's, reinstalling Windows 10. Tested my ram with Memtest for 8 hours, no issues. Tested HDD's no bad sectors found. I've used HWinfo64 to check the voltages and temperatures they seem to be fine even under full Prime95 torture tests spiking around 75 to 79 degrees Celsius under full burn.

My setup:

ASUS Maximus VII Ranger
Intel Core i5-4670k (not overclocked)
8GB DDR3 RAM - 2 x 4GB CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 (Seated in the correct DIM slots) even tried switching to the other DIM slots but didn't work.
ASUS DRW-24F1ST drive
1TB SAMSUNG HD103SJ
1TB SEAGATE ST1000DM003-1ER162
MSI NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970
Creative Soundblaster Z
PSU OCZ600MXSP
Watercooling Corsair H80i
LCD Fan-controller BitFenix
CoolerMaster HAFX case

I must say the options the motherboard has listed in the BIOS, are overwhelming. Tons of options and features which are all set to "auto". No idea if this contributes to the freezing. It's not something that was present before. It started happening about 4 weeks ago. Nothing has changed in my setup. I even started thinking about the humidity in the air causing system instability so I turned on a DE-humidifier to no avail.

Right now I'm trying to see if disabling C-States and Intel SpeedStep will fix the issue.

Thanks in advance for helping me.

Can you please go into more details about how the freeze look like? Also, have you checked the temprature and oc on your GPU?

I once explained to my girlfriend what true love is. I said, "If you were a shit, I'd put you back in" and to this day, she is still my little shit.

Hey Clonzoo thanks for posting. The freeze looks like the PC just doesnt respond to keyboard or mouse input. The system freezes entirely. The odd thing is, when I press the reset button during the freeze it does not repond either. I have to turn off the PC completely. I have checked the temperature on the GPU. I ran FurMark to stress the GPU. It maxed at 67 degrees Celsius so nothing wrong there. I have not overclocked the GPU its running at stock speeds.

Motherboard and CPU idle temps are all around 28 degrees Celsius.

Boost Clock / Base Clock

1279 MHz / 1140 MHz (OC Mode)

1253 MHz / 1114 MHz (Gaming Mode)

1178 MHz / 1051 MHz (Silent Mode)

4096 MB GDDR5 / 7010 MHz Memory

No freezes when I ran FurMark or games.

I have not changed the clock speeds or anything. I'm thinking the issue might be C-States / Intel SpeedStep. Because I think most freezes happen when the system is idle. I have run Prime95 for hours without problems. One thing I did find strange was HWinfo64 did not show any extreme temperatures other than CPU (PECI) spiking above 84 degrees Celsius.
