So my girlfriend has a 2010-2011 era Macbook Pro, and we were Skyping one night and she had turned the brightness down all the way. She unplugged the charger too so that it would die after a while. So now when I press the bootup button, the Boot Chime comes on and the screen turns grey for a millisecond and then it's black. I've held a tech light up to the screen and it seems that NONE of the pixels are even powered, but this could be due to this macbook saving past conditions (I.E 20% Volume, 30% Brightness etc)

If you have any solutions to fix this problem for me it'd be super! Thankyou for giving me a chance to fix old Red <3

Remove battery, charger. Hold power button. Replace charger. Does it work? If not, replace battery. How about now?

If you try to turn the brightness up after you turn it on (make sure to try to holding down fn or option while you press the brightness buttons in case it is set to work like that) and nothing happens, then it is not because she turned the brightness all the way down. If it was just resuming its brightness setting once it booted up, then only the display should be affected, and you should be able to change it.

The fact that it turns on for a fraction of a second and then turns off sounds like a malfunctioning inverter to me. This happened to one of my monitors. You should be able to diagnose this by seeing a faint image on the screen. Are you absolutely sure that you see nothing on the screen when you hold the flashlight at a sharp angle to it and put your eyes close to the display to look for anything? It's really faint, but definitely visible. It's possible that this could have randomly coincided with her turning down the brightness. I don't know how common this is on the MBPs, but it is possible.

@Peepnbrick When I turn the computer on itself, The screen actually does turn on, it goes from a normal matte black to when an electronic screen is powered off, but when the powe r button is pressed it changes hues like the brightness is all the way dowqn
