A black screen appears after my bios, but before my windows boot, it lasts about 15-20 seconds but I eventually get into windows 10. I've been trying to fix it for weeks without any improvement. I tried installing windows onto a different drive and it still showed the black screen before I got into windows. My specs are; i7 6700K, msi z170a sli plus, 32Gbs of G.skill ddr4, samsung m.2 950 pro ssd which has the operating system on it and a 500gb samsung evo, don't have a graphics card yet because I'm waiting to get my hands on a gtx 1080. any help would be great

Assuming you have removed all unnecessary USB devices from the computer and since you used a different drive with a new image, then I would suggest starting with reseating your RAM and GPUs. If that doesn't help then try another SATA cable and SATA port on the MOBO. If that doesn't do it, take out the GPU's and use onboard graphics. If that doesn't work then try RAM(how many sticks (4)?) Use 1/2 the RAM and test, then try the other half, then half again to narrow down a stick or a DIMM slot.

EDIT: forgot no GPUs...skip that step
