I have a Usb modem connected to a Windows 7 PC ,and want to share the internet conncetion by hooking my pc to a router(TL-WR741ND) and using its wifi to allow other devices to connect to the internet.

I tried ICS in Windows 7 but it didnt work.

Any suggestion would be greatly appretiated.

Excuse me for my english as it is not my first language.

Use ICS from your modem to your ethernet.

Connect ethernet cable to your router. You have two choice here:

  • Connect it to the internet port. The downside is your computer will not able to see anyone on the wireless network. The good thing, you probably will not need to setup the router, if it has been set to dhcp internet.
  • Connect to one of the router ethernet port (before activating ICS!!!), open the router setup to disable DHCP server (please remember your router setup IP), restart router, enable ICS, good to go.

I tried to connect the WAN port on the router to the PC then enabling ICS but it didnt work.

do you still need the configuration on this router? You can try to reset it, and set up the wireless information again.

If you know how to operate the router setup page, check the internet connection page. Make sure it is on Dynamic / DHCP / etc.

You can try to connect it to your laptop or any other device with ethernet to try if it the ICS is working properly.

Can you try to take screen capture of the page when you setup ICS + run cmd, type ipconfig, enter, copy or screen capture the result.
