Recuva or something else?

So I formatted my harddrive and then realizes afterward I need many files on my old harddrive so I was gonna use recuva to recover a partition from it to get the data back. However it is a large amount of data (500GB+/-). I was wondering if recuva is good for this or if there is something better. I have used recuva before but as I remember it only allowed to recover individual files. I am trying recover what i erased when i formatted the harddrive which is mostly game saves. I really rather not have to go into recuva and select each individual file to recover something. Id rather be able to recover just the whole drive and all the files.

Can you install recuva on another computer and then connect the drive to it so it definitely doesn't overwrite anything.

it is mostly my documents I need since pretty much all my game saves are within that as well as desktop folder.
