Hi

I have a Gainward GTX 1080 Phoenix GLH and the base clock is realy low, sometimes down to 291 mhz on the core and 405 mhz on the memory. I get artifacts when I am on firefox and surfing..

But usually the core clock is 1278 mhz, but I feel this is a low clock ass well, in the specs it say that the core clock is 1746 mhz.

I have reinstalled the drives, but it doesn't help.

Gai-  Gainward??? 0_o

I have never heard of this brand before; ever. I had to Google it. Is it some off-brand, overseas company?

Just because the card is running doesn't mean that it will run at the stock 1733 MHz. If it doesn't need all the power then it will clock its self down. If you're getting artifacts while just web browsing then I think you have a bad GPU. How much did you pay for it?

What are the rest of your system specs?

They are based and mostly sell cards in europe just like Club3D, they are one of the best actually.

if i'm correct that card has dual bios.

turn of the pc and look for a little switch on the card it self, switch it and reboot.

then you should get the clocks you looking for.

Thanks for the advice, but it didnt help, now i am down to 139mhz :P

MSI afterburner shows the same values

hmm, here's a few things i would check/try,

1: does the card use a software app? if yes are there profiles on the app?

2: different pci-e slot on the motherboard.

3: if possible different psu

4: if possible different psu connectors (with this i mean ur psu support multiple ports for 6+2 cables) take out ur current 6+8 pin and try different ports on the psu or different 6+2 psu cables.

5: try the card in a friends pc.

other then that i would not know and i would rma the card.

you could try to contact the webshop you bought it from or even gainward they might be able to help you.

run valley benchmark to see if the clock boost applies?

Isn't it GPU boost feature to downclock and down voltage when the card is not under heavy load?

it runs fine when I game/benchmark, by default it clocks up to 1975-2025 mhz. so the boost clock is working, but it shouldn't clock down to 291 mhz. that's too low.

i have the EVGA 1080 FE and when idle on desktop mine clocks down to 139 mhz and mines overclocked to 2114 boost. though i dont get the artifcating you get lowering the clock that low while not in game or actually using the graphics card is normal

it's not normal to get artifacts tho. I don't know, but I guess I get the artifacts due to the low clock speed.

hmm what are you considering artifacts?

Artifacts due to low clock speed?

No, that's now how graphic card works.

Put it on full load and report the clock speed here.

English is not my native language but I woud say that the screen flickers when doing basic stuff like surfing.

Sounds like you don't know what you are talking about.

RMA'ing and expecting your problems to be fixed isn't a very sound argument.

When I pay 700 dollars for a GPU I expects the card works flawlessly. I have never had this issue before with other graphic cards

ok, then it's something else. when the card is under full load the clocks speed is 1975-2025. I dont have any problems when gaming, only when there is no load.
