It's all good, gotta earn what ya get... perhaps offer some extra help around the house. Not sure your age (I'd rather not know) but if you offer to contribute more around the house they may put some extra cash up for your computer.

Check out some of the newer CPUs and get 16 gb of ram. 8 gb really is insufficient( for me at least)

I would go with 4 x 4GB Ram if you are doing video editing. Maybe drop the fans or get a cheaper cooler to balance the price out.

16GB is a good amount for Video Editing, and X99 can run in quad channel.

I mean sure I would but maybe Ill go 2 x 8gb sticks and then get more when I have enough money

You can go with 2 x 8GB but that would run in dual channel instead of quad channel. It might not make much of a difference, but you will get the extra bandwidth running it in quad channel mode.

 

The motherboard has 8 x ram slots so even if you went 4 x 4GB you could still add more in the future.

I use 64gb for video editing... but that cause of VFX/3D modeling I add to videos

Well, it's up to you but I would personally recommend you getting a 6000 series CPU, at the very least it will last a little bit longer.
